Right now, I’m avoiding going back to working on the black francaise. I got the back seams done earlier, and I could totally see why sewing them by hand would have made sense. But I did it on the machine because it was a smidge faster (well, a lot faster by me) and a lot stronger considering my hand-sewing skills. Doing this gown doesn’t excite me yet. When I get to the trim, I bet it will. Trim always excites me — ironic, no, because trim almost always has to be applied by hand. But trim is something we just don’t have enough of in modern life. Trim is *why* I love historical costume. It’s flash, it’s bling, it’s fantasy and fashion and fun.
But I can’t get there until I finish those fiddly front seams. Bleh. Back to the grindstone.
