Kendra mentioned this to me at Costume College & I was all “meh.” And then I realized, hey now, I can Carnevale-ize this baby! It’s a two-fer — make a big crazy 18th-century court gown now, goth it up & do it in OTT me style, then I’ll be all set should I need to go back to Venice for ye olde pre-Lenten celebration any time soon. Who says I won’t?
I put my dibs on this 1788 fashion plate, described as “court gown with grand pannier in style of Jacob’s ladder,” surely because of the crossed pattern of the skirt decoration.
Not sure exactly how I’m going to design it, other than that the main colors will be purple with lots of black. And there will be bats & skulls in there too. Maybe some stripes. Everything I can throw at it!
Was there ever any doubt that the original artist had you in mind when s/he designed this? It’s perfect!
LOVE that you’re doing this T, I can imagine it almost a la spider with a purple skirt and “webs” of black trim.
