For Costume College 2023, I could only make a short trip and thus didn’t make or even bring a bunch of costumes. But for some reason, I had the idea to make this one, a faux Fortuny dress. I’d been looking around for that pre-pleated “plisse” fabric that mimics the style of Fortuny’s elusive silk pleating, and I stumbled across some poly stuff in this gorgeous purple.
So I whipped up a basic tube shape with a neck hole, which actually took a couple tries to get the right overall width and cut the right size of neck. But the sewing was super easy!
I wore it with my curly 1920s wig, a ’20s-esque bandeau tiara, and loads of jewelry.
